Experienced Scorpion Exterminators
Scorpions are identified by their long tail with stinger and huge pincers. These arachnids are nocturnal and very shy which means that they do their best to avoid interactions with humans. However, they will sometimes seek shelter in places like shoes, under tables, and indoors which could lead to unexpected scorpion stings. These bugs are also capable of producing a brood every 9 months or so which result in about 30 young scorpions each cycle. This can cause scorpion populations to jump quickly if not managed appropriately. EcoGuard has over 40 years of combined experience implementing scorpion pest control services from local treatment to exterior pesticide applications.
EcoGuard also offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee for all our customers, and we stand by our promise to eradicate your problem until the very last scorpion is gone. Scorpion Treatments
EcoGuard is a leader in scorpion control methodology and service.
At EcoGuard Pest Management we are experienced and knowledgeable with all types of scorpion control strategies. Our experienced pest control technicians will find and treat any scorpion harborage points for you to keep your family safe. Every time we treat your property, we will inspect your property for scorpion activity and treat any problematic areas to keep scorpion populations under control.
Inspection
A licensed scorpion extermination technician will search a property for areas that scorpions might use as harborage points. The inspection will also result in a discussion on preventative measures that can be implemented to prevent scorpions in the future.
Chemical Pesticide Application
Our licensed technicians will lay down an interior and exterior pesticide application as a barrier to prevent scorpions from entering a home. Not only will this prevent scorpions, but it will also prevent other bugs they prey on from entering as well, which should reduce the available resources scorpions need to survive. In addition to the exterior application, interior spot treatments can also be sprayed in areas that are potential harborage sites.
Insecticide Dusting
This contact insecticide is used in different areas that sprays might not reach. The dust is injected into cracks, crevices, and other hiding spots and dehydrates scorpions by infiltrating their exoskeleton.
Scorpion Traps
Glue traps are a way of capturing scorpions and their prey which reduces the number of available resources for scorpions to feed on. These traps should be placed strategically where they are most likely to be effective in garages, closets, and anywhere else scorpions may have been seen.
Scorpion Information
Scorpions are classified as arachnids which indicate that they have 8 legs and multiple sets of eyes. These nocturnal bugs are predatory and feed on other insects including other scorpions. Scorpions are generally known as dessert dwellers, but they inhabit other environments like forests and areas with tall grass. For the most part, scorpions hide in areas that generally go undisturbed and would prefer to avoid human contact. That said, there are species that will act aggressively if they feel threatened.
If the intimidation factor of scorpions was not enough, these bugs are incredibly durable and are able to withstand up to a year without food, live underwater for a short period, and will go into a state of hibernation when temperatures freeze. They also have one of the longest lifespans of any bug as several species can live up to 10 years with the oldest species reaching 25 years old.
Where are Scorpions Found?
Scorpions are typically outdoor pests found in dry desert climates. They will sometimes make their way inside in search of food and water if resources are hard to find. Some ground species will use opening like the gap under the door to find access while some climbing species will make their way in through openings like vents and piping gaps. Once scorpions make their way inside, they usually hide in places that are low to the ground, rarely disturbed, and have access to necessary resources like other bugs to feed on and water. The following are all places in which scorpions have been found close to homes:

- Basements
- Bathrooms
- Kitchens
- Wall cavities
- Crawl spaces
- Closets
- Laundry rooms
- Decks / patios
When searching for scorpion activity, they are visible under black light because they glow in the dark. Use this tool to see if you discover any scorpions and then call EcoGaurd to safely treat your property.
How to Minimize Scorpion Interactions
There are several things that homeowners can do to minimize the potential for a scorpion interaction:
- Wear shoes outdoors at night when scorpions are most active
- Wear gloves when working outside where scorpions are located
- Keep towels hanging and shake them out before use on hot days
- Do not leave articles of clothing or shoes out for long periods in areas where scorpions are active
- Check and shake out shoes or clothing if they were set down somewhere scorpions were noticed
- Be sure to check any items that are brought indoors like firewood
How to Prevent Scorpions
In addition to minimizing scorpion interaction, the best way to limit crossing paths with scorpions is to try and prevent them all together. The following steps can be taken to help prevent scorpions from accessing your property and home:
- Keep yard well maintained since scorpions can hide in tall grass
- Keep property clear of clutter by removing trash, leaves, rocks, and piles of debris
- Minimize the use of loose gravel, mulch, or other ground coverage that might offer scorpions a place to hide
- Keep bushes, shrubs, and any other coverage trimmed back or away from the foundation of a home
- Prune tree branches so they do not touch or hang over a home
- Seal up any openings or access points like under doors, cracks, or windows
- Implement regular pest control to keep other bugs that scorpions feed on under control
- Reduce standing water that scorpions flock to in dry arid climates

-
Arizona Hairy ScorpionList Item 1
This species of scorpion is prevalent throughout the American southwest and is the largest of the species found in the United States. They can grow up to 5 inches long and are considered aggressive when threatened. While they are one of the more aggressive species, their sting feels like a bee sting and their venom is not potent enough to warrant medical attention unless an allergic reaction occurs.
-
Bark ScorpionList Item 2
This light brown species only grows up to 3 inches, but it is the most venomous of the North American scorpions. Any sting by a bark scorpion should be considered worthy of immediate medical attention. They are known as bark scorpions as they are great climbers and are found in trees but also in areas that have access to moisture. This means that they can easily make their way indoors and find themselves in your bathroom or kitchen.
-
Stripe Tailed ScorpionList Item 3
These scorpions are smaller and are identified by the brown stripe that lines its back and tail. The tail and pincers are thicker, but the venom is not something that would generally requires medical attention. These pests are the species that will most likely be found hiding in a place like your shoes.
