These pests are capable of finding the smallest entry points in foundation and wall cracks and will contaminate your family’s food sources in addition to potentially causing structural damage. EcoGuard’s mission is to provide you with peace of mind with regular on-going ant services so our technicians can identify signs of ants and eliminate them as soon as they start to appear. There are over 700 different species of ants that are found in the United States. These small insects are typically brown or black and have 6 legs. The legs are connected to their thorax which is the middle segment of their body that connects their head and abdomen. While most ant species share the same general characteristics, there are some small differences that require some nuance in a targeted pest control strategy. This is why EcoGuard’s years of experience and training help us be the best when it comes to getting rid of ants.
Ants are social insects that live in colonies and reproduce at alarming rates that can reach numbers in the hundreds of thousands. Ants will originate outside of a home and then travel inside in search of food for the colony. If that wasn’t bad enough, ants will sometimes create satellite colonies inside of a home which can cause damages if unnoticed for some time. This presents another problem because even if the internal satellite colony is eliminated, its only a matter of time before it is reestablished by the external colony.
In addition, each ant colony has their own social structure with each ant playing a specific role. These castes are generally broken down into workers, reproductives, and the ant queen. Workers are generally the ant class that you will find foraging for food inside your home and these annoying pests will leave chemical pheromone trails that other ants from their colony can follow once a food source is found. This is why you will often see lines of ants following the same trail when they become noticeable inside your home or business.
Reproductives, or swarmers, are the winged ants that are less invasive but will often leave in search of new locations to start another colony. While this ant class is less likely to be found in or around your home, if you notice swarmers outside there is a good chance that they are trying to establish a colony close by. This is usually the first indicator that ants may be trying to infiltrate your property. Regardless of which type of ants are detected, EcoGuard’s professional ant treatment services will help eradicate any colony that becomes a problem.
Ants are typically attracted to the resources they need to sustain their colony and their ant queen. By eliminating sources of food and water as well as access points, ant can be deterred from entering your home. Ant exclusion requires that small gaps that ants use to access your home are sealed. This can be done by using caulk to seal cracks and crevices.
These ants are small and black or brown in color.  They are a scavenger/predator ants and will eat most household foods especially those that contain sugar.
These ants do not eat wood but they will burrow into structures to build their nests.  Often confused for termites, they will also cause significant damage to wood structures.
These ants are extremely small making them hard to find once they make their way into your home.  They eat protein, and their small size allows them to access areas other larger ants may not be able to.
Like a lot of ants this species will eat anything containing sugar, they have quite the sweet tooth.  They will create trails to attract the rest of the colony to any food source they find.
These ants love to create nests indoors.  They will eat just about any food and will even damage fabrics.  They can infest an entire building in weeks because of how quickly they reproduce.  If these ants are in your home, act fast!
Fire ants will aggressively swarm a threat so they can cause serious pain and discomfort if you happen to upset a colony by stepping on it or laying something down on top of it.
Pavement ants build colonies outside along curbs and cracks in pavement or foundation. They are found in the northern and western US and reach as far south as southern California.
There are many ways to get rid of ants in your home but not all methods will kill off the colony so they might keep coming back. If there are only a few ants making their way in straight white vinegar will kill ants on contact and repel them. This is also a good way to clean a home to prevent ants. That said, if there are lines of ants indicating an infestation, EcoGuard provides guaranteed ant control services that will help eliminate the problem starting with the colony.
Some species of ants can be controlled using baits while other species might require much more targeted methods. To get rid of ants completely, it is necessary to eliminate the colony they came from otherwise they will keep coming back. EcoGuard pest control professionals have years of experience and training to ensure we are able to combat any type of ant that might be causing problems.
For most infestations, an ant control service will generally start at $150 for a one time visit from an exterminator. That said, EcoGuard prices competitively and recommends on going ant services to prevent future ant infestations from reaching the point where it requires costly services after that initial visit.
The only way to permanently get rid of ants is to ensure that the colony is exterminated. It usually helps to have trained and licensed technicians who can identify where a colony is to ensure that the proper steps are taken to eliminate the colony including the queen.
There are preventative steps that individuals can take like storing food in sealed containers, cleaning up food, and sealing cracks but the best way to keep ants out is to lay down a protective barrier on the outside of a home or business.
