Wasps pose a threat to any home and business owners as they can become dangerous if they feel as if the nest is under attack. Unlike honeybees, many species of wasps are capable of stinging multiple times since they do not lose their stinger and they will swarm threats aggressively. At EcoGuard Pest Management we are experienced and knowledgeable in all forms of wasp treatment methods from exclusion methods to chemical pesticide applications. We have been providing wasp control services since 2008 and we understand how dangerous these pests are which make them difficult to get under control. We will also treat any problematic areas to ensure that the wasps are totally eradicated and help with exclusion to minimize the chances that the wasps can come back to create another nest. Identifying wasps can be difficult as they vary widely depending on the species. They generally have just 2 sets of wings and a pinched body and they can range in variety of colors. One of the most common species being the paper wasp comes in yellow and black but other species also come in black, red, and green. There are many species that are solitary, but several are also known to be social insects that live in colonies. These colonies can grow into hundreds or thousands if not controlled. One of the more prevalent species, the paper wasp, can be identified by the shape of their nest. It is usually a round paper comb structure made from collected wood fibers that is attached upside down by a single strand in an exterior area that is generally protected from disturbance. These nests will start when a queen identifies a location in springtime under eaves, decks, or awnings. The queen starts construction and then raises her brood which mature into the first round of workers which will continue to help grow the nest through summer if the right conditions exist.
Many wasps will only become hostile when the colony is disturbed. That said, they are capable of releasing toxins when stinging as well as pheromones that will draw others from the colony to swarm and attack a threat. This is why it is important that nests are treated by a qualified licensed technician. While they do pose a threat, wasps also play a critical role as pollinators that will help ecosystems while they forage for food. Some wasps are more like bees in search of a sweet meal and will often target trash in search of sugary drinks or fruits. Others tend to eat smaller insects and are sometimes used to protect crop harvests by keeping insect populations under control.

Mud dauber is a common name for wasps that make their nests with mud. These nests are often found on the siding of your home or under the eaves. Mud daubers are colored either completely black or blue metallic. Some species have yellow or greenish markings on the body.
Their bodies are commonly dark brown in color, with black wings and yellow markings. Paper wasp nests are made from plant material combined with saliva and appear to be made from paper. You should not let these nests develop on or around your home. Stings from paper wasps are extremely painful and may produce serious reactions to people who are allergic to the venom. Removing a paper wasp nest may be dangerous. We highly recommend that a pest control professional be contacted to assist in treatment of paper wasp infestations.
Two easily recognized characteristics of ground wasps are their two pairs of wings and a constriction between the wasp’s thorax and abdomen – a trait known as “thread-waisted.” The ground wasps most frequently encountered are yellow jackets. Yellow jackets usually build their nests below-ground. Sometimes they choose to nest above ground in sheltered, dark locations such as crawl spaces, wall voids, fallen trees and thick bushy vegetation.
Like a lot of ants this species will eat anything containing sugar, they have quite the sweet tooth.  They will create trails to attract the rest of the colony to any food source they find.
To treat wasps’ nests, a licensed EcoGuard technician will have access to either a chemical sprayer or fogger to use to ensure areas of wasp activity are saturated in insecticides. This insecticide will kill wasps once they come in contact so they no longer present a threat to your home or business.
Wasp treatment and nest removal can cost on average from $100 to $1300 depending on variables like size and location of nest with the national average being right around $375. That said, EcoGuard prices competitively and offers a guarantee with our services.
Keeping areas free of trash and removing wasp attractants will prevent wasps from taking hold. Once a nest has been started, professional help is recommended to prevent the possibility of a wasp swarm defending its nest.
Wasps excrete pheromones signaling danger once they detect a threat which attracts others to investigate. Killing a wasp or wasps will generally attract more and could potentially lead to a swarm attack.
