Stink bugs earn the name as they produce a foul odor that is designed to protect them from predators when they feel threatened and attract a mate. The most prevalent species, the brown marmorated stink bug, is a recent invasive addition that is now found all over the United States. They originated in East Asia and became an American problem sometime in the 1990’s. They are flying insects that have become agricultural pests as stink bugs feed on various fruits and vegetables as well as leafy crops.
