Experienced Hornet Exterminators

Hornets pose a threat to any home and business owners as they can become dangerous if they feel as if the nest is under attack. Unlike honeybees, many species of hornets are capable of stinging multiple times since they do not lose their stinger and they will swarm threats aggressively. At EcoGuard Pest Management we are experienced and knowledgeable in all forms of hornet treatment methods from exclusion methods to chemical pesticide applications. We have over 40 years of combined experience providing hornet control services and we understand how dangerous these pests are which make them difficult to get under control. Their nests are generally found outdoors in trees and rotting logs but sometimes they will overwinter somewhere with a little more warmth like underneath your eaves. No matter where the nest is, EcoGuard technicians will remove them to protect your home or business. We will also treat any problematic areas to ensure that the hornets are totally eradicated and help with exclusion to minimize the chances that the hornets can come back to create another nest. Our goal is to provide you with peace of mind with regular on-going services so our technicians can identify signs of hornets and eliminate them as soon as they start to appear.

EcoGuard also offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee for all of our customers, and we stand by our promise to eradicate your problem until the very last hornet is gone. That hornet control guarantee comes with every service and if they come back, then so do we, at no additional cost. We are standing by to give you a free estimate and to help you set your first hornet pest control service appointment. Give us a call today!

Hornet Information

Hornets are generally the largest of the stinging pests and come in brown, black, and red. The hornet’s nest is usually a round structure made from wood pulp with one entrance and are generally found 3 – 6 feet off the ground. These nests will start when a queen identifies a location in springtime under eaves, in a wall cavity, or out in a tree. The queen starts construction and then raises her brood which mature into the first round of workers which will continue to help grow the nest through summer if the right conditions exist.

Hornets are known to be aggressive and will attack for no apparent reason. They can sting multiple times which increases the severity of the attack. They are capable of releasing toxins and pheromones that will draw other hornets from the colony to swarm and attack a threat. This is why it is important that nests are treated by a qualified licensed technician. While they do pose a threat, hornets also play a role as pollinators that will help ecosystems while they forage for food. Unlike bees and wasps, some hornets prefer to feed on tree sap while others are predators that hunt other insects.

Inspection
A licensed hornet extermination technician will search a property for areas where hornets are most likely to build nests. When a nest is identified, the technician will create a customized strategy best suited to remove the nest carefully to minimize any potential for hornets to swarm and cause bodily injury.

Hornet Traps
Hornets are known to travel long distances for food so sometimes nests are not close by. If that is the case, traps can be left out to attract hornets to ensure they are captured and no longer present any danger.

Hornet Treatment
If a nest is located, it can be treated with a chemical, fog, or dust insecticide application. The insecticides applied to the nest are designed to infect the hornets causing their death after they return from foraging for food. It is important to leave the nest in case not all hornets from the colony are present so any remaining hornets that return get infected. Otherwise, the remaining hornets will rebuild their nest after its removal.

Nest Removal
Once a colony has been treated and appears to have experienced a full colony collapse, the nest can be removed. It is important that this is still executed by a trained professional in the event that not all the hornets are dead as they will get hostile when the colony is disturbed.

Exclusion
Once a hornet nest is removed, it is critical that steps are taken to ensure that the hornets are not provided with resources that will encourage them to return. EcoGuard’s technicians will help seal any openings that may look appealing as well as educate the homeowner on how to minimize the potential of another hornet colony making a nest close by.
